Netflix‘s The Letter For The King cast have spoken to Digital Spy about how the series differs from fellow fantasy epics The Witcher and Game of Thrones.
There are certainly similarities between the franchises — The Letter For The King is also based on a hit fantasy novel and takes place in an expansive world filled with strange and wonderful characters.
But when we recently spoke to cast members Amir Wilson (aka Tiuri) and Thaddea Graham (aka Iona), they stressed that The Letter For The King sets itself apart from The Witcher and Game of Thrones in a very unique way.
“There’s something in this that will make everyone happy,” Wilson explained. “It isn’t just for kids, or just for adults. I think there’s something about it for all the family.”

Graham conquered: “They’re such complex characters. I think everyone can see a bit of themselves in someone. I think our show is about young adults trying to fit themselves into an adult world, and I think it’s reflective of real life. And I think, you know, you can draw some inspiration from it.
“These kids are – they’re not… yeah, they are kids, but they won’t give up. And I think it’s so inspiring.”
The Letter For The King also converges from its own source material by not directly adapting Tonke Dragt’s novel De brief voor de Koning.
“In my opinion, the book is so brilliant, you will fail [adapting it],” Gijs Blom (aka Prince Viridian) recently told us. “It’s just… you shouldn’t try to outgrow it, or whatever. We took the message, and we made our own story. Well, it has a completely different story.

“We took a lot of liberty because it was more about what Tonke was trying to tell. You can read the book and watch the series and have two different experiences. I think that’s very powerful. And they both continue on the same message.”
The Letter for the King is now streaming on Netflix worldwide.
