Katherine Langford has addressed comparisons between her Netflix show Cursed and the likes of Game of Thrones and The Witcher.
Based on the book by Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller, Cursed is a retelling of Arthurian legend that follows the magical being Nimue, a young woman with a mysterious gift who’s destined to become the powerful Lady of the Lake.
Sitting down with Digital Spy and other media recently, the actress (who plays Nimue) explained that the forthcoming adaptation doesn’t necessarily fit into one specific genre, even though Cursed shares a lot of DNA with medieval fantasy.

“I get asked quite a lot by fans and people who love this genre, ‘What it’s like?’ – I’m still trying to figure out,” she said.
“For me, Cursed is really interesting because it’s not quite one or the other. It’s a mixture of its own elements and it stands by itself in that sense.
“I definitely think it’s a fantastical and historical piece, which is full of action and is a full-on thriller. But it also has quite a grounded quality to it.
“It’s got heavy ties to the Earth and nature, but then on the other side of the spectrum, it has this real essence of magic.”

Referencing Cursed‘s literary origins, Langford went on to share: “I think it’s probably going to create its own little genre. If you like Frank Miller’s work or if you like fantasy, or epic shows, it definitely falls within that category.”
It might not mirror the exact realities of Game of Thrones and The Witcher, but with their joint phenomenal success in mind, Langford will no doubt be hoping Cursed can follow in those footsteps.
Cursed will be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, July 17.
