Given he has spent a great deal of lockdown writing the book, that could suggest he has written nearly 50 chapters already, showing this truly is going to be a hefty tome.
Sadly, fans are nowhere closer to working out exactly how many chapters there are in The Winds of Winter, though 50 is a fair estimate of Martin’s progress over the past few months of lockdown and isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, evidently there is some way to go, meaning this book could still have at least another 50 chapters to go.
Including prologues and appendices, the predecessor to The Winds of Winter, A Dance with Dragons, had 73 chapters, which was the same as his first A Song of Ice and Fire book A Game of Thrones.
