Maisie Williams and the cast of The New Mutants tease their new superhero/horror mashup, which is finally coming to theaters…for better or worse.
Long ago, in the far far away, 20th Century Fox made a movie called The New Mutants, a spinoff to the X-Men franchise. Then, for all kinds of reasons, the movie never came out. It kept getting delayed for one reason or another; there was Disney buying Fox, there was the coronavirus, there was just plain bad timing…but now, finally, in just a few days, The New Mutants is coming out in theaters, and the cast are here to tell you about it.
Who are the cast? There’s Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane), Stranger Things vet Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie (Cannonball), Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin (Magik), Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar (Mirage), Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa (Sunspot) and Alice Braga as Dr. Reyes, the woman who’s keeping the lot of these mutants prisoner in a creepy hospital…or so it seems:
And if that’s not enough, we also have the proper trailer:
As you can see, what we have here is more of a superhero/hero mashup, which sounds interesting.
The movie looks cool enough, and heaven knows the cast has waiting a long time for it to come out. But despite Williams’ plea to #WearAMask above, I can’t help but feel like it should get delayed yet again. The coronavirus is very much not in remission in the United States, and crowding into a poorly ventilated room to gasp and laugh and eat popcorn along strangers…it may not be the best idea.
But it’s happening, “for real this time.” We’ll see how it shakes out when The New Mutants lands in theaters on August 27.
