Emilia Clarke has had some pretty memorable moments as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones – but there is an amazing story behind one scene that fans knew nothing about.

During season five of the HBO hit, Emilia improvised one particular scene in the show’s fictional language of Valyrian, and it appears no one even realised.

Because, she is that much of a pro.

Director Jeremy Podeswa revealed all in James Hibberd’s book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The scene the director referred to was in season five, episode five, where Daenerys orders the execution of one of three Meereenese noblemen.

The segment was originally scripted in English, but when showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss came down to set, they came up with the concept of it being shot in Valyrian.

Jeremy went on to explained that typically the show’s Valyrian or Dothraki dialogue is ‘scripted months in advance’ by their linguist.

‘There’s usually a lot of preparation for that sort of thing and so much consideration that goes into it and she had quite a big monologue before she sets the guy on fire,’ the director began.

‘I went over to Emilia, and I was like, “I know this is a really big ask, but do you think you could figure out a way to do this in Valyrian?” She said, “Yeah, sure, I think I can do this.” And I’m all, “Really?”‘

Jeremy described how Emilia went off set for 10 minutes to ‘cobble’ something together, and when she came back she ‘had this whole monologue down’.

‘I just had to hand it to Emilia for taking on the challenge and making it completely credible,’ he added.

‘Every single take, every intonation, and the way she phrased everything, you completely understood what she was meant to be saying.’

Game of Thrones came to an end after season eight in 2019.

The reason behind why the writers couldn’t make any more was that the series had naturally come to an end (mainly because most of the main characters had been killed off).

Earlier this year GOT creator George RR Martin confirmed his literary series will have an alternative ending the one we watched unfold on HBO.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV and Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon is available now.
