Although we’ve reported on everything we can get our greyscale-free hands on — showrunners, writersfilming locations, one or two castings — there has been very little “official” news about HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon. But I’m here to deliver glad tidings, folx: that drought is over.

The official GoT Twitter account posted today that “Dragons are coming” confirming that production on HoTD — which will explore the history of the Targaryens in Westeros, most notably their civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons — will begin in 2021. The tweet was accompanied by what looks like concept art of two dragons that are red in tone (possibly Sunfyre and Caraxes, but I’m just speculating).

It doesn’t sound like much to get excited about, but it’s an arduous process for any film or TV series just to get to the point of being allowed to say anything is “official.” This simple tweet represents months of behind-the-scenes work: coordinating filming schedules and locations, writing scripts, hiring crew, etc. I’m going to assume we can expect much more verified (or at least verifiable) news about HoTD in the very near future — and Watchers will be here to walk you through all of it! Stay tuned!

*NOTE: An artist’s signature is seen in the lower left-hand corner of the second image, but we’re unsure who it is. If you know, please contact us so we can properly credit them for their beautiful work!*
