THE BAY fans have been warned that season two is ‘like Game of Thrones in Morecombe’ as cast tease ‘big shocks’.

The ITV show is set to return for a second run this winter after a successful first series following the investigations of DS Lisa Armstong (Morven Christie) and her team.

Joe Absolom, who has taken on the new character of Andy Warren in the crime drama, seemed keen to whet the appetite of fans.

He told Digital Spy: “It’s like Game of Thrones in Morecambe.”

While his co-star Taheen Modak – who plays DS Med Kharim in the drama written by Daragh Carville – commented: “Coming back with a season two, you want to hit the audience with something new, hopefully a bit bigger.

“There are a lot of shocks this season. I’m not going to say anything else.”

The first series followed DS Armstrong as she and the team investigated the disappearance of two local teenagers.

Daniel Ryan, who stars as DI Tony Manning, said: “Once you’ve been on Gogglebox and they go nuts about it and they think it’s the best thing ever, your game is very, very high.

“What’s the point in coming back if it’s not going to be good?

“And so ultimately, the pressure’s on Daragh to write something that’s very good.

“And he’s already got great stories in his head and he laid one out for us to deliver.”

He went on: “For us, yeah, of course, the pressure is there and I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t get 27 million people watching it.

“Ultimately, that’s one on Daragh’s shoulders really, to make it better, but he did, so that’s very clever of him.”

A second run was quickly announced in May 2019 after the series finale.

The ITV Twitter account revealed: “Solving cases is all in a day’s work for Detective Lisa Armstrong. We’re pleased to confirm #TheBay will return to @ITV for series 2.

ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill said: “I am delighted with the audience response to The Bay.

“It’s very real and beautifully made by everyone involved, and as a result it held an audience of 7 million across 6 weeks.

“I think that audience will enjoy seeing where Daragh takes Lisa and the team, when they return with a new case for series 2 next year.”
