Westeros royalty and Jedi masters are joining forces – as Game Of Thrones’ Indira Varma has been cast in the upcoming Star Wars Obi Wan Kenobi spin-off.

The Disney Plus series has been slated for a 2022 release, with Ewan McGregor returning to his Jedi robes and reuniting with Hayden Christiansen, who played the man who would become Darth Vader.

Now, Indira has been confirmed to be coming into the fold as well – though details surrounding her character are currently remaining top secret.

Indira will be known to most as Ellaria Sand in Game Of Thrones, the lover of Pedro Pascal’s Oberyn Martell.

In one of the most notable scenes in the show’s history, Ellaria’s horrified face spoke volumes as Oberyn’s head was crushed and eyes were gouged out by warrior Ser Gregor, known as The Mountain, in a trial by combat.

Most recently, Indira has been seen alongside Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom in Amazon’s steampunk fantasy series, Carnival Row, and in Aisling Bea’s sitcom, This Way Up.

She also lends her voice to the satirical puppet series, Spitting Image.

As with most Disney shows, information about the Obi Wan spin-off has remained top secret, with Ewan and Hayden’s return to the franchise coming 16 years since their last appearance in Revenge Of The Sith – the final installment of the prequel trilogy.

The duo’s casting has caused fans to assume the series will bridge the gap between the prequel series and the original Star Wars film, A New Hope.
