Con of Thrones, the premiere convention dedicated to Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, has been called off for the second year in a row.
For the second year in a row, Mischief Management has decided to cancel Con of Thrones, the premiere annual convention dedicated to all things Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.
Con of Thrones 2020 was cancelled because it fell smack dab in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. This yearâs event was due to take place in August, in Orlando, Florida. While things are safer now than they were, the pandemic has had collateral effects. âWhile weâre confident that the vaccination rate makes it safer for groups to gather, international travel restrictions and other factors make it so weâre not able to host Con of Thrones at the level that the community has come to expect,â Mischief Management said in a statement on the Con of Thrones website. âWe look forward to gathering again soon!â
We are hard at work reimagining the event for the future, looking at alternative dates and locations so that we can gather again. Weâll keep you updated as these details come together!
Tickets, autographs, photographs and the like will be refunded, while reservations at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, the official hotel partner of Con of Thrones, will be automatically cancelled.
Iâve been to Con of Thrones a few times and itâs always fun, but yeah, it may have been too much to hope to put on an event like this while the world is still in recovery. On the plus side, this year and last were both years when there wasnât a lot going on in the wide world of Game of Thrones. If the convention comes back next year, it could pick up on the energy generated by prequel series House of the Dragon.
