Some actors are so good at playing their roles, they become one in the eyes of the public. Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is rose to fame when his character Jon Snow became a household name after the show’s tremendous success. So it is natural for anyone to compare any new role he is in with his famous persona, especially when he is in a Shakespearean play, acting as a famous monarch.
Harington’s new theatre role sees him take the mantle of King Henry V, and The Guardian couldn’t help but ask if he sees any similarities/differences between the two roles. He said, “There are a few superficial similarities: the leadership issues, the swords, the battle; Henry’s “band of brothers” and the Night’s Watch brotherhood in the TV series. But resurrecting Snow is “definitely not what we’re going for. Snow is honourable and selfless; Henry is not.”
Kit says the play is “a modern staging in an alternate universe if the monarchy were still in charge”. He continues, “I was very keen not to do swords. There’s an element of me always trying to get away from that comparison, but at the same time, you’re not going to, so why try? A large portion of the audience coming to this will be fans of that show, and that’s a great thing.”
