Emilia Clarke knows a thing or two about appearing in TV series with controversial endings. She played Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, which famously ended with a final season that drove fans mad; the online backlash was legendary, particularly after Clarke’s character took a wild heel turn and indiscriminately burned the men, women and children of King’s Landing in the show’s penultimate episode. People were upset. Ooh, they were so upset.
More recently, Clarke starred as G’iah in the Marvel show Secret Invasion. Unlike with Game of Thrones, fans and critics pretty much thought that this show was a dud from the jump. Happily, after Game of Thrones, Clarke is likely more than ready for any slings and arrows disgruntled fans may throw at her.
You can see her preparing herself in the interview below, where she points out the folly of chastising actors for plot twists on a TV show:

Emilia Clarke: If you don’t like a choice that the franchise I’m in has made, “there’s not much I can do”
“If people don’t like something that I’ve done or choice that I’ve made or a choice that the franchise I’m in has made, we’ve already done it, so there’s not much I can do — do you know what I mean?” Clarke said.
Emilia Clarke doesn’t have any big new projects on the horizon, although the end of Secret Invasion made it seem like G’iah could become an important new character. Although after the reception to the series, who knows if Marvel will go forward with any plans they may have had?
