Though we have uncovered numerous links, albeit both direct and indirect, between Game of Thrones and its ongoing prequel show House of the Dragon, there are some instances we still miss out on. One such instance was recently shared by the showrunner Ryan Condal regarding the heartbreaking Cargyllbowl scene.
House of the Dragon season 2 episode 2 featured some insane sequences. It included the political propaganda of the royal funeral and even Otto Hightower getting fired as the Hand of the King. Fans were hooked to the edge of their seats to know what happens next. While we have to wait till next week to see the story continue, read on to find another connection between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon below.
Sansa Stark romanticized Cargyllbowl
In the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, Sansa Stark recounts the fight between the Cargyll brothers. However, we should take her account with a pinch of salt. Sansa is known to look at the world through her rose-tinted glasses. Subsequently, while talking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Ryan Condal corroborates the same since Sansa romanticized her version of it. He says,
“The book depicts a few different versions of that story. I was always fascinated by the Cargyll twins’ story because that was a story that Sansa Stark romanticized — going back to the Song of Ice and Fire books. And, of course, Sansa has this very Sansa-like romantic vision of what that fight was like and how they dueled for hours, as though it was the duel from The Princess Bride. But the real thing would be much more brutal and gritty. We wanted to try to find the central line through it.”
It goes without saying that director Claire Kilner and the entire crew of House of the Dragon pulled off that scene with great authenticity and genuine emotion. Actor Elliott Titensor revealed that they did over 30 hours of rehearsals to get the scene just right. What we see in the episode is sheer brilliance. The heartbreaking scene captures two loving brothers caught on different sides of a ruthless battle.
