In House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower are portrayed as childhood best friends, confiding in each other and developing a deep connection. Yet, their relationship takes a dramatic turn when Alicent marries King Viserys, Rhaenyra’s father. After resenting Rhaenyra for years, Alicent has come to the realization that she faces the same predicament as Rhaenyra.

Alicent approaches Rhaenyra with a new proposition

The second season of House of the Dragon has been a game-changer for a lot of characters. From Daemon to Alicent, a lot of them have gone through major changes. Alicent, after her moment of clarity at the lake, sneaks into Dragonstone to get in her good graces, and possibly avoid a lot of bloodshed. She gives valuable intel to the Black Queen, offering her to capture King’s Landing, on the condition that she spares Aegon’s life.

Rhaenyra refuses Alicent’s plea

The scene was a complete mirror image of how Rhaenyra approached Alicent earlier in this season. After feeling empowered by the addition of three new dragons, Rhaenyra straightaway refuses the offer. And her rage, remembering Luke and Rhaenys’ death at the hands of Alicent’s sons, causes her to threaten to get her killed. But she lets Alicent return, just like Alicent did in Season 2 Episode 3.
