Filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 has been disrupted by extreme weather. Production in Gran Canaria was officially cancelled due to historic rainfall and severe flooding in the area, forcing the team to relocate to an alternative site, reportedly to mainland Spain.

Quick read:

  • AKOTSK has cancelled shooting in Canary Islands
  • The production is reported to move to mainland Spain
  • There are currently no changes in the shooting schedule

The Canary Islands location had been chosen for key outdoor sequences, taking advantage of its dramatic landscapes to represent parts of Westeros. However, unusually heavy rains in recent days caused significant flooding, making it impossible to continue shooting safely.

According to production updates, the crew has now been forced to move to a different filming location while they wait for conditions to improve or adjust the schedule accordingly.

Impact on season 2 production

This is the latest weather-related challenge for the Game of Thrones spin-off. Season 2, which continues the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), has already been filming for several months. The Gran Canaria shoot was expected to cover important exterior scenes, but the sudden flooding has required quick adjustments from the production team.

No major delays to the overall schedule have been announced yet, and HBO has not commented publicly on how long the relocation will take or what the exact the new filming site will be.

Background of the location

Gran Canaria was selected for its varied terrain; from rocky coastlines to green hills, which provided the perfect backdrop for the show’s road-trip style storytelling. This landscape was selected to represent the area of The Reach from Dorne, which is the main backdrop of season 2.  The sudden historic rainfall in April 2026 caught many off guard and has affected multiple productions filming in the Canary Islands.

Fans are now eagerly awaiting more updates as season 2 continues, with Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell both recently sharing positive behind-the-scenes moments from the shoot. The production team is expected to resume filming as soon as possible at the new location.
