An “honourable” and exciting task
Romer described being asked to blend the two themes as one of the most exciting and honorable moments of his career:
“Being given that task was like one of the most exciting, honourable things that I’ve ever done in my life. It was just like, I get to remake this Game of Thrones theme and then wind my own melodies into it.”

He admitted that the team wasn’t deliberately trying to make the Dunk theme fit with the Game of Thrones theme, but luckily the tempos matched perfectly:
“Thank God, tempo-wise, it just worked. We weren’t thinking about that… but it did.”
A collaborative effort
Romer was quick to point out that the idea to blend the two themes didn’t come from him. He credited the creative team, particularly mentioning that he believes the specific placement under the Baelor entrance was Dexter’s (Egg) idea.
“That idea wasn’t my idea to do this. It came from you guys… I think it was Dexter’s.”
He praised having the powerful Game of Thrones theme as a foundational “piece of machinery” underneath his own Dunk melody, calling the entire process “incredible.”
A fan-favorite moment
The fusion of the two themes at the end of episode 4 has been praised by fans for making A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms feel both fresh and connected to the original series. Romer’s humility and excitement reflect how special this musical moment was for the entire team. This emotional blend not only elevated the scene but also successfully married the story of Dunk and Egg with the epic scope of the Game of Thrones universe.
