“Infinite” potential

In a recent appearance at the Variety Entertainment Marketing Summit, Shauna Spenley, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Warner Bros., described the Game of Thrones IP as incredibly strong and seemingly endless:

She highlighted the recent global explosion of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, calling it “lighter fare” that still managed to “go supernova all over the world.”

Strong fan demand

Spenley noted clear audience hunger for more content in the universe. She pointed out that fans now have “long-term expectations” and “habitual expectations,” meaning they don’t want to wait years between installments.

“There’s clearly a lot of demand… I think this theatrical endeavor will be no exception. House of the Dragon coming later this summer. So it feels now like it really has an audience that has long-term expectations and, again, habitual expectations. They don’t really want to wait a couple years for every installment.”

This comes as HBO prepares to release House of the Dragon Season 3 later this summer, while multiple other projects including theatrical films are in development.

The comments signal Warner Bros.’ commitment to expanding the Game of Thrones world at a faster pace.

With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 already filming and a theatrical movie reportedly in the works, the studio sees the franchise as a long-term powerhouse comparable to other major IPs.
