Alyn of Hull’s arc in House of the Dragon Season 3 is shaping up to be one of the most compelling transformations in the series. Actor Abubakar Salim recently spoke to Variety about how Alyn evolves from the volatile, angry figure we saw at the end of Season 2 into a more mature and layered character. His comments highlight the vulnerability and rawness that define Alyn’s entry into Season 3, and how the naval battles and political entanglements force him to grow.

Quick read

  • Salim says Alyn enters Season 3 “volatile and angry.”
  • His vulnerability and rawness carry over from Season 2.
  • Season 3 shows him maturing and evolving with events.

From volatility to vulnerability

Salim explained: “I think we see him mature. It’s really interesting because we left Season 2 with him very volatile and angry, and having a go at Corlys. So, I feel like we’re entering with that kind of vulnerability and rawness from the get‑go. So, yeah, I think we see him mature through this season and kind of evolve with what’s going on.” His words suggest that Alyn’s journey is not about sudden change but about gradual evolution, shaped by the pressures of war and politics.

Alyn’s evolving role

Season 3 positions Alyn at the heart of the naval conflict, particularly in the Battle of the Gullet, where his actions carry weight for both the Velaryons and Rhaenyra’s faction. His relationship with Corlys remains central, evolving from confrontation to reluctant partnership. This dynamic forces Alyn to balance personal anger with political necessity, pushing him toward maturity.
