A birthday celebration fit for a future king
The Instagram photos and videos (via westerosies) showed Ansell celebrating his 12th birthday during the HBO Max Primetime Emmy Awards festivities. Among those pictured with the young actor were George R.R. Martin, the creator of the world of Westeros, and Peter Claffey, who stars opposite Ansell as Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The images served as another reminder of the close bond that has developed between the cast and creative team behind the series. Fans have frequently seen Claffey and Ansell together throughout the show’s promotional tour, but adding Martin to the birthday celebration made the occasion feel especially meaningful.
For a young actor whose first season in Westeros has already earned industry recognition, it’s hard to imagine a more memorable way to spend a birthday.

The Emmys capped an unforgettable year for Dexter Sol Ansell
The birthday celebration came just days after Ansell attended the 2026 Emmy Awards with the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which received multiple nominations and continued building momentum ahead of its second season.

In interviews on the Emmy red carpet, Ansell described the experience as the perfect birthday present. The actor also spoke about how rewarding it had been to see viewers embrace the series and the adventures of Dunk and Egg.
Now, with a successful first season behind him, season 2 already wrapped, and a birthday celebration featuring the creator of Westeros himself, Ansell has plenty of reasons to smile.
Not many 12-year-olds can say they spent their birthday partying with George R.R. Martin. Then again, not many 12-year-olds get to play a future king of Westeros.
