For years, it felt like every few months brought news of another potential Game of Thrones spinoff. From Jon Snow sequels to animated projects and everything in between, Westeros seemed destined to expand in every direction imaginable. But according to HBO boss Casey Bloys, fans shouldn’t expect a surprise new series joining the lineup in 2027. In fact, the franchise’s television future is currently much smaller than many viewers might have assumed.

HBO is focusing on just two Westeros shows

Speaking with Deadline following the Emmy Awards, Casey Bloys was asked whether any additional Game of Thrones television spinoffs were actively being developed at HBO.

His response was surprisingly direct.

“You mean in addition to the Emmy-nominated Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is coming out in the first half of ’27? And House of the Dragon? Besides that, no, nothing else.”

That’s a significant update considering the number of rumored projects that have circulated over the years. While HBO has explored various ideas set in Westeros, Bloys’ comments suggest that no other television spinoffs are currently moving forward beyond House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

It also confirms that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to return in the first half of 2027.

Aegon’s Conquest is still moving forward as a film

That doesn’t mean the world of Westeros is completely standing still outside HBO’s two active series.

One major project remains in development on the film side: Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest. Unlike the television spinoffs overseen by HBO, the project is being developed by Warner Bros. as a feature film. Reports have previously confirmed that Beau Willimon is attached as the screenwriter.

That’s an important distinction because Bloys was specifically discussing HBO television productions, not theatrical releases. As a result, Aegon’s Conquest doesn’t contradict his statement that no additional TV spinoffs are currently in development.
