For a while, it seemed Jon Snow’s story had reached its final chapter. The planned Game of Thrones sequel centered on the fan-favorite character was shelved after years of development, leaving many fans convinced it was gone for good. But according to Kit Harington, the idea may not be completely dead. The actor recently reflected on why the project stalled and revealed that he can still imagine a future where the spinoff becomes reality.

Harington says the project needed the right story
Speaking about the abandoned series on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Harington explained that the team spent considerable time trying to develop the concept before ultimately deciding it wasn’t quite there creatively.
“We developed it two years or so. I still think there’s a world in which something could work. I wouldn’t have gone into it in the first place if I didn’t.”
The actor emphasized that he, HBO, and George R.R. Martin all shared the same philosophy from the beginning.
“But I was very insistent at the start — as was HBO and George R.R. Martin — of like: ‘If we don’t find the right thing, let’s not do it. It’s much better if we don’t.’”

Rather than forcing a continuation simply because Jon Snow remained popular, everyone involved wanted to make sure they had a story that justified revisiting the character.

Time away from Westeros changed his perspective
Interestingly, Harington revealed that it was ultimately his own hesitation that helped put the brakes on the project.
“After a little while of thinking about it — it kind of was me — [I said], ‘This isn’t quite the right [story].’”
But time away from Westeros appears to have softened his stance.
“Now I’ve gone and done all these other things and now I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life.”
That may be the most encouraging part of Harington’s comments for fans hoping to see Jon Snow again someday. While the actor isn’t confirming that a sequel series is happening, he sounds more open to returning than he has in years.
For now, HBO’s Westeros slate remains focused on House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but Harington’s latest remarks suggest that Jon Snow’s watch may not be over forever.
