George R.R. Martin will receive the Monolith Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Infinity Festival. This was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The festival will run from November 12–15, 2026, at the Audrey Irmas Pavilion in Los Angeles. Martin will join Oscar-winning filmmaker Brad Bird as one of this year’s lifetime achievement recipients.

About the award

The Monolith Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes people whose work has left a lasting impact on entertainment. Organizers say it specifically honours Martin’s lifetime of storytelling and his efforts to bring the work of his longtime friend, science-fiction author Howard Waldrop, to the screen.

Infinity Festival co-founder Mark Lieber said,

“George R.R. Martin has had an extraordinary impact on storytelling, creating worlds and characters that have captivated audiences for generations. We’re thrilled to honor his remarkable career and showcase Heirs of the Perisphere.”

Screening and conversation

Alongside the award, the festival will screen Heirs of the Perisphere, a science-fiction short film produced by George R.R. Martin. It recently premiered at the Santa Fe International Film Festival.

Directed by Chris Eyre and written by Caroline Spector, the film is based on a short story by Howard Waldrop. It follows three animatronic robots who wake up after centuries of silence, discover that humanity has vanished, and set out to find their creators.

Martin is also expected to take part in a conversation with festival attendees. Further details are yet to be announced.

Fans rally behind Martin

Martin is best known as the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, which HBO adapted into Game of Thrones and the prequel series House of the Dragon.

The award recognizes both that massive cultural impact and his quieter work supporting other writers, particularly Waldrop. For fans, it is a high-profile public appearance focused on storytelling rather than any update on the remaining books.
