A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 casts a key Lannister, and HBO has officially begun expanding the world around Dunk and Egg as production continues in Belfast. The Game of Thrones franchise may be known for sprawling dynasties and intricate family legacies, and the newest casting announcement quietly plants a major Lannister connection into the upcoming story.
Season 1 wrapped to strong approval from fans and critics who appreciate George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas for their grounded storytelling and character-driven narrative. The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, played by Dexter Sol Ansell, as they ride across Westeros seeking purpose and adventure.
Now Season 2 moves forward with a fresh storyline, new political tensions, and a new set of characters pulled directly from Martin’s second novella. HBO confirmed that several actors have joined the cast, signaling that the show’s next chapter is taking shape while cameras continue rolling in Northern Ireland.

The official Game of Thrones social media account confirmed that Lucy Boynton will portray Lady Rohanne Webber, also known as the Red Widow. Rohanne stands as the Lady of Coldmoat and head of House Webber, a figure whose legacy eventually connects to one of Westeros’ most powerful dynasties. In the wider timeline of the Game of Thrones universe, Rohanne becomes the future wife of Gerold Lannister and the grandmother of Tywin Lannister, the character famously portrayed by Charles Dance in the original series.
Boynton arrives with a strong resume that includes roles in Barbie, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the series A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story. Her casting signals that the show intends to treat Rohanne as a major presence within the narrative of Season 2. Two additional actors also join the expanding roster. Babou Ceesay, known for his role in Alien: Earth, will play Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield.
In the world of Westeros, a sworn sword is a knight who pledges service to a particular lord or lady rather than serving a broader order. Ceesay’s character is one of those wandering fighters who frequently shape the power balance in local conflicts. Peter Mullan, who recently stepped into the role of Vesemir in the final seasons of The Witcher, will portray Ser Eustace Osgrey, the head of House Osgrey. In Martin’s novella, Ser Duncan becomes a sworn sword to Osgrey, placing Dunk and Egg directly in the middle of the region’s disputes.
Each of these characters becomes essential to the story that unfolds when Dunk and Egg encounter them during their travels.

Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella written by George R.R. Martin. The narrative places Dunk and Egg within a tense feud between two houses during a brutal summer drought, a situation that gradually escalates into conflict. The events occur about a year and a half after the story of The Hedge Knight, which Season 1 adapted.
Showrunner Ira Parker explained the creative approach during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s really interesting seeing reactions to the work that we’ve done so far,” Parker said.

But at the end of the day, that’s the enjoyment of being a fan. I have no agenda in this, you know? I wanna tell good stories about these characters that I love, and I want it to be fun. That’s the goal.

The Season 1 finale introduced a small but important addition to the canon. After Egg officially joins Dunk as his squire, Prince Maekar Targaryen, played by Sam Spruell, realizes his son has disappeared from the royal convoy. This moment does not appear in the original novellas, yet Parker carefully addressed the choice.
“I would say we are attempting to be as compartmentalized as possible,” Parker said. He also acknowledged that the story might continue further than the currently published novellas if the series earns enough seasons. “I’m not sure the end of the third novella is really a stopping place for a series,” he added.

It’s certainly a stopping place because that is the last [one]. And I can wrap my head around it if that is the end, but there’s a lot of hope and I think these guys have a lot to say in the nature of the relationship and how it changes over the course of a life. So we’ll see where it goes.

Season 2 is already deep into filming in Belfast and is expected to premiere sometime in 2027.
