Production journey in Gran Canaria

Production moved to Gran Canaria in early 2026 to film key outdoor scenes for Season 2, which adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Sworn Sword”. The Canary Islands location was chosen to represent the arid, drought-stricken regions of the Reach in Westeros.

In mid-April 2026, severe flooding from Storm Therese submerged sets at Las Niñas Dam, forcing a temporary halt and relocation of some shoots. Production resumed at alternative sites like La Fortaleza in Gran Canaria. Despite the weather setbacks, the Gran Canaria leg of filming concluded successfully in early June 2026.

Peter Claffey posted celebratory content from the island, while Dexter Sol Ansell also confirmed his personal wrap, signaling that the main block of Spain-based shooting is complete.

The successful wrap in Gran Canaria brings the production one major step closer to completion. While some interior and additional filming may continue elsewhere, the bulk of the challenging outdoor work in Spain is now done.
