A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expanding its production footprint for season 2, with showrunner Ira Parker confirming that key Dorne-related sequences will be shot in Spain. Spain has previously served Game of Thrones’ original series for its Dornish scenes as well. The update, shared on February 27, 2026, highlights the team’s efforts to capture the arid, sun-drenched atmosphere demanded by the storyline while revealing a production hiccup.

Showrunner reveals Spanish location
In a recent interview with IGN, Parker explained the decision to film in Spain’s drier regions.
“We are going to drier pastures in Spain for [the drought scenes],” he said.
The move was chosen specifically to deliver authentic visuals for the drought-heavy sequences featured in the upcoming season, which adapts elements from George R.R. Martin’s The Sworn Sword. The production team had scouted a naturally dry riverbed location to serve as the perfect backdrop, aligning with the show’s grounded, hedge-knight perspective following Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg. However, nature had other plans.
Parker revealed the chosen dry riverbed received rainfall for the first time in 10 years, transforming the site into a fully flowing river. He commented,
“Except that the location that was meant to be our dry riverbed is now a fully flowing river… and so now has sent us scrambling and searching for changes at this late date.”
The ironic twist has forced last-minute adjustments, which is a common challenge in large-scale fantasy productions.
What it means for the fans
While the delay in scouting new sites may slightly impact the schedule, the Spain shoot promises richer, sun-baked cinematography that will bring Dorne’s distinctive landscape to life. With season 1 still fresh in viewers’ minds and season 2 already being looked forward to, this update adds to the growing excitement around the Dunk and Egg story.
