Parker says Sol Ansell understands people and emotions better than most adults.
Dexter Sol Ansell’s emotional intelligence beyond his years
Here was an eleven-year-old boy who had already played the young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, bringing emotional depth and quiet intensity to a role that demanded complexity beyond his years.
When Parker finally met Dexter Sol Ansell in person, the showrunner’s assessment was simple yet staggering: “I think he’s a genius, a special human being,” Parker told The Times. “I don’t exactly know what it is that he has, but he seems to understand people and emotions and how to play to a crowd better than most adults.”

The casting decision that took zero stress
When you’re tasked with finding actors to carry a major Game of Thrones spin-off, the pressure is real. Thousands of auditions pile in, casting directors sift through reels, and showrunners agonize over choices. But Ira Parker didn’t have to agonize at all when it came to Dexter Sol Ansell.
Parker recalls the moment he clicked on Sol Ansell’s audition tape: “Whatever he chooses to do in his later life I think he’s going to be a very big success. He says that he wants to be a showrunner one day. Hopefully, if people watch this show, we can keep making them until he can take over.”
The casting director had sent over batches of auditions, and in the very first batch arrived Sol Ansell. Parker’s reaction was immediate: “I was literally the first person that they sent to me in our casting sessions, and we didn’t have to look any further.”
