HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has won its first Primetime Emmy. The Dunk and Egg prequel took home “Outstanding Stunt Performance” at the 78th Emmy Awards for the “In the Name of the Mother.”
The winners are stunt performers Zach Roberts, Gyula Tóth, Chris Cox, and Jake Cox. The award recognizes the brutal seven-on-seven melee in episode 5, when Ser Duncan the Tall faces Prince Aerion Targaryen and his men. Roberts doubled Aerion once the helmet went on. The sequence took about 10 days to shoot after extensive rehearsal, with armors that made the work even harder.
All nine Emmy nominations
The first season earned nine nominations when the Television Academy announced the 2026 list on July 8. That haul included a surprise inclusion for Outstanding Drama Series; a rare feat for a half-hour fantasy show in its first year.

What the show did and didn’t get
The nominations were strongest in craft. Costumes, hair, production design, cinematography, score, sound, VFX, and stunts all landed nods. Belfast-based craft teams were a big part of that, including costume designer Lorna Ó Ríordáin and hairstylist Anna Knight.
What it missed was just as notable: no acting nominations for Peter Claffey (Dunk) or Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg), and no writing or directing nods. That leaves Peter Dinklage as the only Westeros actor with Emmy wins, at least for now.
Where this fits in the franchise
The Drama Series nomination keeps the franchise’s streak alive. Every Westeros season except House of the Dragon Season 2 has now been nominated for Outstanding Drama. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms did it on its first try, competing against The Pitt, Pluribus, The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, Slow Horses, Paradise, and Your Friends & Neighbors.
The Creative Arts Emmys, where stunts are awarded, took place September 5–6. The main Primetime ceremony airs September 14 on NBC and Peacock. The Drama Series race is still open.
For a smaller, half-hour Game of Thrones spin-off, one gold statue already matters. The show’s first Emmy went to the people who made Dunk’s biggest fight look real.
