Game of Thrones is a richly developed story filled with complex characters that have had to overcome insurmountable odds. The actors behind several of those characters — Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) sat down with British Vogue to interview each other for a fun segment called Game Changers: The Female Stars Of Game of Thrones.
“[Game of Thrones] is really, really exciting, but also really confusing,” says Williams when asked to describe the show in one sentence. “Heaven and Hell on almost earth,” tries Christie, poetically.
Next, Williams asks Lena Headey to describe the qualities she admires most in Cersei. “She doesn’t give up. She’s gonna fight with a tiger and just fucking stay there until it gave up.” Sounds pretty accurate, although you’d think Cersei would at least try and avoid fighting with other lions, not that she’s ever succeeded.
Sophie Turner asks Willaims what her “biggest challenge while filming” was. Williams hilariously recalls how she wanted her portrayal of Arya to be book-accurate.
When I was 12, I thought it would be a great idea to make Arya left-handed, because in the book she’s left-handed. At the beginning, it’s like little things, you know, and then they’re like doing an entire fight synchronus with your left hand and then I’m like ‘why did I think this was a good idea?’
Moving on, Headey asked Turner how the female characters on the Game of Thrones have evolved since the show started way back in 2011. “I mean, in the first season you see all of the people with power — all of them — are the men,” Turner said. “The female characters endure so much and they come out the other side incredibly strong. Every single one of them is a leader in their own, right now.”

- Williams thinks the guy who got his head bashed in by the Mountain in season 6 is the most underrated character. Well, he needs someone in his corner.
- What line gets quoted to Sophie Turner the most? “The North Remembers.” “I Love that, because it makes me feel very empowered, because the North does remember.”
- Finally, how would these actors sum up their experiences on Game of Thrones? Headey: “Life-changing, surprising.” Christie: “Intense, brutal and liberating.” Turner: “Educational, fun.” Williams: “Cold, memorable.”
“…and, Dragons? I don’t know,” Maisie Williams finished. The final season kicks off on April 14.
