Netflix’s Mindhunter is one of the streaming company’s best releases ever, but will it ever renew for season 3?
The American crime thriller series featuring famous serial killers is very stimulating. It often leaves viewers on the edge of their seats.
The series’ second season released August 16 last year. Though it’s been almost a year since the last episode hit the streaming platform, Netflix is still not announcing if we will ever have a third season.
Here are all the latest updates we know about the series so far.
Is Mindhunter Season 3 Happening Soon?
Mindhunter’s fate remains dark as of this writing. Netflix spoke to TVLine early this year and revealed that they have released the cast and crew from their contracts.
“David [Fincher] is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death, and Robots,”
“He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own,” a Netflix representative said.
On the other hand, Holt McCallany, who plays Special Agent Bill Tench, remains hopeful for their story to continue.
“We are hopeful that we will get to do the whole five seasons because the audience seems to have really responded to the show, people really like the show. And we’re very proud of the show, and very excited to keep making the show.” McCallany revealed via Pop Culture.
Although there is still hope, it’s too early to tell fans if Netflix will ever push for a third season.
Netflix has already chopped a couple of big titles in the past including Santa Clarita Diet, Designated Survivor, and The OA.
Who Are The Possible Cast Members Of Mindhunter Season 3?
If Netflix will renew the series, we can expect to see Holt McCallany back as Special Agent Bill Tench together with his partner Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford. Anna Torv is also likely to return as psychology professor / FBI consultant Wendy Carr. Michael Cerveris will play FBI Chief Ted Gunn. Zachary Scott Ross may also reprise his role as Bill and Nancy’s adopted son, Brian.
Sonny Valicenti is also very likely to be part of the next season as BTK (bind, torture, kill) killer following season 2’s post-credit scene.
Of course, if a season 3 ever happens, fans can expect to be introduced to several new interesting serial killers for Special Agent Tench and Ford to interview.
What Can We Expect To See On Mindhunter Season 3?
Aside from being introduced to new serial killers, the next season will also most likely explore the main character’s issues.
On season 2, we saw Bill Tench’s son, Brian, witness a child murder and decided to keep it a secret.
Brian decided to keep his mouth shut and tried to bury all the details at the back of his head.
However, seeing a young boy getting killed is not one of those easy secrets to keep. The traumatic events led Brian to withdraw from his loved ones.
Fans can expect to see Tench and his son resolve this conflict in the following seasons.
