Next month, Peacock will premiere its new half-hour action comedy series Twisted Metal, based on the long-running PlayStation video game series. Twisted Metal features various people driving souped-up cars across a post-apocalyptic landscape trying to blow each other to smithereens. It might not be the first option that comes to mind when you think video game adaptations, but it looks kinda fun.
The TV show has a pretty star-studded cast, with Anthony Mackie as lead character John Doe, a “motor-mouthed milk man” who’s trying to get across the ruined US. He’s joined by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as “badass car thief” Quiet, Thomas Hayden Church (Spider-Man 3) as villainous highway patrolman Agent Stone, and Neve Campbell (Scream) as the hearse-driving wheelwoman Raven.
Then there’s Bojack Horseman’s Will Arnett, who’s playing Twisted Metal mascot Sweet Tooth, a maniacal clown who drives an ice cream truck. Sweet Tooth is a pretty essential character if you’re going to do a Twisted Metal show, so we’ve all been curious to see what he’ll look like onscreen. Now we finally have our first look in a new clip which shows the iconic clown duking it out with Mackie’s John Doe in a casino:
Sweet Tooth just wants to see that thong in Twisted Metal sneak peek
If you hadn’t read that this show is being billed as an action comedy, you’d certainly know it after watching that clip. After beating up John Doe, Sweet Tooth puts on “killin’ music,” aka Sisqó’s “Thong Song.” He and John Doe then bond over the music and seemingly decide to put their duel on the backburner so that Doe can go watch Sweet Tooth perform. It’s all pretty absurd, which might be the right move for a series based on as zany of a property as Twisted Metal.
It’s interesting that Sweet Tooth looks as massive as he does; either Arnett put on a ton of weight for this role, or he’s using a body double.
One other thing to note here is that we don’t see any of the series’ trademark vehicles of war in the clip. Not to worry though: both Sweet Tooth and John Doe mention their vehicles several times, so it’s a pretty safe bet there’ll be plenty of Mad Max-style car shenanigans as well.
All 10 episodes of Twisted Metal season 1 will drop on Peacock on July 27.
