Best Fight Scene 2018 – Best Fight Scenes: Eastern vs. Western Martial Arts
Although not normally thought of as “martial arts”, the Western world has developed their own effective combat systems throughout the ages particularly what is referred to as “Historical European Martial Arts”. The differences and similarities between the Eastern and Western approaches are fascinating and often overlooked in the larger context of studying “martial arts”. While Eastern martial arts usually possess a spiritual or even religious foundation advocating certain ethical principles and ways of life, Western martial arts usually focus more on pure combat for sport, artistic preservation, and sometimes self-defense (originally for warfare). I’m not a martial arts expert but a fan of awesome fight choreography so I decided to delve a bit deeper and “research” some of the fighting styles used in certain fight scenes.
