Bodyguard actor Richard Madden has confirmed he’s in talks to bring back David Budd for a second series.
The 32-year-old actor, who shot to fame in Game of Thrones, let loose that he’s got plans to see the smash BBC drama’s writer Jed Mercurio to discuss the second chapter of the biggest drama on the BBC.
Seeming to announce that Richard’s conflicted character David will see the light of day once more, he revealed: ‘I’m going to meet Jed in a couple of weeks, to have a chat and see what’s in his brilliant brain.
‘So I’m like, what can happen next? You know, with David. Because he had a hell a couple of months there. Where do you go with this guy?’
Has Richard just let the cat out of the bag or is this a belated Halloween trick?
Bodyguard is officially the most successful drama on British television since records began in 2002 and an impressive 17.1 million viewers tuned into watch the final episode of the six-part series.
However, fans of the show have been waiting with bated breath about whether or not it’ll be making a comeback and earlier this month Jed told Metro.co.uk not to get too excited about a return.
He told us: ‘I really don’t know [about series 2].
‘The approach to it was definitely that we would just focus on this series and if we’re fortunate enough it’s successful and the BBC wants to do more, and we can find a way of setting up production, then yes definitely I’d be open to the idea.’
He added: ‘But there’s been absolutely no discussion about a second series yet, there’s certainly no plan to do a second series yet until we’ve had that conversation with the BBC.’
Despite this, Jed previously hinted that he would bring back Richard back as David should the Beeb give them the go ahead for number two, saying: ‘He’s the genuine article, a real leading man. And I think this role has put him very much in the spotlight for bigger things.’
Jed added to Radio Times: ‘So the practicality may be that we have to work round his availability, if we are lucky enough to get him back.’
The first series of Bodyguard is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
