Game Of Thrones star James Cosmo has warned residents in Oldham, Greater Manchester, that ‘lockdown is coming’ unless they abide by coronavirus guidelines.
The actor, who played Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, in the acclaimed HBO fantasy, implored the public to ‘stay safe’ in a video message shared by Oldham Council.
‘Houses of Oldham, it’s your Lord Commander,’ James began in the clip.
‘Lockdown is coming if you don’t act now and follow the coronavirus guidelines, so stay safe and follow the guidance … everyone stay safe, and God bless you.’
The council confirmed the video cost just over £40 to produce and the actor would be donating all proceeds to the NHS.
‘He’s a real star, I’m sure you’ll agree?’ they penned on Twitter.
Oldham currently has the highest two-week Covid-19 case rate across England and Wales.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there is a ‘big challenge’ in the town due to the number of coronavirus cases, and ‘we will do what is necessary’ despite local concerns about a potential lockdown.
He told Times Radio: ‘Oldham, of course, is part of Greater Manchester, which already has measures in place – not a full local lockdown but measures in place to try to control the spread of the virus.
‘We see from what’s happened in Leicester over the past few weeks that where we put a local lockdown in place it then has been effective and we have been able to announce yesterday that Leicester is coming out of most – not all – but most of the local lockdown measures because the numbers are under control.’
James isn’t the first star to have been approached by Oldham Council to send out a video message.
Earlier this month, Inbetweeners actor James Buckley was asked to film his own warning, reminding residents of coronavirus guidelines.
