HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is striking a chord with viewers, and episode 3, titled “The Squire,” has proved it. Just 2 days after airing on February 1, the episode has climbed to an impressive 9.2 out of 10 on IMDb, making it the highest-rated episode of the series so far.

To put that into perspective, the show currently holds an 8.3 IMDb rating overall, with episode 1 at 8.1 and episode 2 at 8.3. Episode 3 has managed to pull ahead of both and, at one point, even touched 9.3 before settling at 9.2 as more fans weighed in. Thousands of votes later, it’s clear this one really landed.

Despite being just 30 minutes long, the episode packs in everything fans love about George R.R. Martin’s world. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Viewers got to see the warm, quiet moments between Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg, with their growing bond. Small details like sharing food and jokes made their relationship feel real and earned.

However, the real twist came in at the end of the episode. During the Ashford tourney, Egg’s true identity is finally revealed that he’s actually Prince Aegon Targaryen, the youngest son of Prince Maekar Targaryen and an heir to the iron throne. The reveal happens in the middle of chaos. This is when Dunk steps in to protect a puppeteer named Tanselle after Prince Aerion Targaryen (Egg’s older brother) cruelly breaks her fingers over a dragon-themed puppet show. Dunk’s responded to this by punching the prince straight in the face. This sets off consequences that will now lead to a trial by combat in the upcoming episodes.

Viewers have praised how the episode balanced emotion, tension, and character drama without relying on massive battles or dragons. Aerion’s behavior, in particular, has made him an instant standout villain, with many fans already comparing him to Game of Thrones’ Joffrey Baratheon.

Even social media platforms buzzed immediately after the episode aired, especially around Egg’s reveal, Dunk’s punch, and Aerion’s cruelty. For such a short episode, The Squire from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms leaves a huge impact.

With Episode 4 set to raise the stakes even further, it is safe to say that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has officially found its stride.
