HBO’s long-awaited “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” drops this weekend, but Google Trends wants to make sure fans remember the original Mother of Dragons before they bend the knee to another one.
In an analysis of the most-searched GoT characters on Google by state during early August, the company found that a majority of the country was looking for details on Khaleesi.
Residents from 42 states, including Texas, searched for Daenerys Targaryen more than other beloved characters. People from six states searched for Jon Snow the most, including Alaska and Oklahoma.
People from only two Googled Arya Stark the most (South Dakota and New Jersey).
Other central characters like Sansa, Tyrion, Cersei and Jaime didn’t make the list.
It comes as no surprise that a majority of the U.S. searches for Dany. The last-standing Targaryen woman usually ranks at the top of similar lists, winning third on Hollywood Reporter’s “‘Game of Thrones’: The Top 30 Characters, Ranked” and making Screenrant’s list of most likeable GoT characters.
Emilia Clarke was also nominated for four Emmy awards — one each in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019– for her performance in the show.
Esquire ranked the character No. 10 out of 20, and Comic Book Resources gave her the No. 8 spot out of 20 related to its roundup of fan favorites. Both publications cited her character arch in the last two seasons when explaining the ranking positions.
Whether or not she was the real leader that Westeros deserved, it’s safe to say Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains lives rent-free in most of the country’s search bars.
