A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker has made it clear he has no plans to replace young star Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, even if the series continues long enough for the character to grow up.
In a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Parker was asked about a hypothetical scenario in which HBO might want to age up the character and recast the role with an older actor after the early seasons.
His response was firm and personal:
“No. Dexter is our Egg. Or, at least, Dexter is my Egg — I have no controlling interest in this property. But Dexter and Peter are my guys.”

Loyalty to the cast
Parker’s comments come as he discusses his longer-term vision for the series. He has previously expressed interest in adapting more than just the three published Dunk and Egg novellas, potentially taking a multi-year break so that the actors can age naturally into later chapters of the characters’ lives.
Rather than replace Dexter Sol Ansell (who plays the young Aegon “Egg” Targaryen) or Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan the Tall), Parker prefers to let the performers grow with their roles. His strong attachment to the pair reflects how central their chemistry has been to the show’s success.
