Ansell explained why Egg doesn’t share Dunk’s guilt: “I don’t think Egg does. That’s the least of his worries. People in Egg’s family die quite a lot, so it’s more of a surprise to Dunk than Egg. He knows all of his family is going to be killed, because no one dies from natural causes. They all get killed.”
That insight reframes Egg as a boy hardened by lineage. For him, Baelor’s death is tragic but expected — another chapter in a family history soaked in blood. Dunk, by contrast, is devastated because he still believes in the possibility of survival and honor untouched by violence.
