Ewan Mitchell has given fans an exciting and slightly chilling update on his character, Prince Aemond Targaryen, ahead of House of the Dragon Season 3.
Quick read:
- Ewan Mitchell comments on Aemond’s character arc in season 3
- He assured that the prince will definitely be more violent this season
- he wants to see Aemond become more human
Aemond becomes more active
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mitchell teased that Aemond will take a much more brutal and personal role in the escalating war. He said:
“Aemond is definitely bloodying his sword this season. I think he’s the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. I was really looking forward to pulling back that veneer… taking him out of that Terminator-esque horror-icon movie and making him more human.”
This suggests that season 3 will show a more layered and emotionally complex version of Aemond while still delivering the ruthless violence fans expect from the one-eyed prince.

From terminator to more human
Mitchell’s “Terminator-esque horror-icon” description perfectly captures how Aemond has been portrayed so far: cold, unstoppable, and terrifying. In season 3, the actor wants to peel back that intimidating exterior to reveal more of Aemond’s humanity, vulnerabilities, and motivations. At the same time, “bloodying his sword” promises that Aemond will be directly involved in brutal combat and key battles.
This balance of making Aemond more human while keeping him dangerous is likely to make his arc one of the most compelling in the season.
