**Major spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 below**

Game of Thrones season eight’s finale didn’t please everyone, with a rather unexpected character ending up on the Iron Throne – but Bran Stark’s endgame may be been subtly hinted as far back as season one.

The scene in question takes place in the very first episode when Ned Stark (Sean bean) beheads a Night Watch deserter while his ‘sons’ Jon (Kit Harington) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) watch.

As he carries out the execution, Ned recites: ‘In the name of Robert of the House Baratheon. First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm, I, Eddard of the House Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, sentence you to die.’

But as he says the ‘King of the Andals and the First Men’ part, the camera pans to a shot of Bran and Jon.

Could this be foreshadowing about Bran’s future destiny to become King of the Six Kingdoms?

It may just be a coincidence of course.

The moment was pointed out on the Game of Thrones Facts Twitter with many fans disagreeing that it was deliberate foreshadowing.

One fan wrote: ‘Coincidences in the show aren’t foreshadowing or character development. Stop.’

While another added: ‘I swear you where all saying it cuts to Jon not long ago now you’ve changed ye minds.’ [sic]

So maybe it is just a happy coincidence after all.

Game of Thrones season 8 is currently streaming on Now TV.
