When someone’s character dies on Game of Thrones, it means they are not out of a job on the most popular show on television.

However, this is not always a bad thing. Some actors are ready to move on to another television show or into movies. Other actors, such as Richard Madden, are happy for another reason altogether.

Madden, who portrayed Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, told The Hollywood Reporter that he is happy to be off the show because it means he can now be a fan again as the show enters its final season (see the new Game of Thrones teaser trailer here).

Robb Stark died in the 29th episode of Game of Thrones during “The Rains of Castamere.”

The Red Wedding in that episode saw the deaths of Robb Stark, Talisa Stark and Catelyn Stark and was possibly the most infamous episode of the show’s history.

With the final season premiere being the 67th episode, there have now been more episodes since his death than before.

However, for Madden, that means that he has been able to enjoy the show as the rest of us do. That, for him, is exciting.

“One of the bad things about being in the show is you got the scripts so you knew what was going to happen next, and I’ve not had that for years, so now I can just truly enjoy it as a viewer, which is thrilling.”

It also helps that Madden has had no problems finding work since leaving the role of Robb Stark on Game of Thrones.

After his character’s death, Madden appeared as one of the leads in the Discovery Channel TV mini-series Klondike, the Italian series Medici: Masters of Florence, and most recently the Netflix series Bodyguard.

And, since he is no longer on possibly the most watched show on television, he can now be surprised at what happens in Game of Thrones like the rest of the world.
