Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke might have been tricked (Picture: HBO)

With just one week to go until the first episode of Game Of Thrones season 8, it feels like the entire world is waiting to hear how the story will end. And turns out that might include the cast too.

Showrunner David Benioff has thrown doubt over the idea that the cast – who were all present for the table read of the final script – know exactly who was going to win the Iron Throne. That is, if anyone even survives the final series right to the end, of course.

‘The actors think they know the end because they were all here for the table read,’ said Benioff. ‘But that’s not to say that we don’t employ deception at times.

‘We have had some success in terms of hiding things, but the actors definitely all believe that they know where this season is going to end.’

So all this time everyone’s been hounding Kit Harrington and Maisie Williams for spoilers they might not have even known? Great.

It’s unclear whether the cast are aware they might have been tricked, or if they were even tricked at all and Benioff is just trying the throw everyone off the scent. It’s a very confusing and stressful time to be a Game Of Thrones fan.

The cast have all kept schtum about the details of the finale, though many have spoken up about their emotions during filming.

Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth, said the scripts made her feel ‘deeply startled’ and ‘upset’, while John Bradley and Hannah Murray – Sam and Gilly – have called the ending ‘satisfying’.

Unless the stars are talking about different scenes or they had very different house alliances, it sounds like Gwendoline, John and Hannah have extremely different notions about the ending of Game Of Thrones. Which of course could mean Benioff has indeed thrown a bunch of red herrings into their scripts…

Turns out Jon Snow doesn’t know anything after all.
