Game of Thrones bosses David Benioff and DB Weiss have lined up a Thrones reunion of sorts, as their controversial Netflix project confirms its cast.

Benioff and Weiss’ upcoming series The Three-Body Problem, based on Liu Cixin’s sci-fi trilogy, has announced the arrival of 12 new stars to the show, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ Benedict Wong and Shang-Chi‘s Tsai Chin.

In an exciting development for Thrones fans, John Bradley and Liam Cunningham – who played Samwell Tarly and Ser Davos Seaworth, respectively – have also joined the series.

Jovan Adepo, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, and Saamer Usmani are on board, too.

Co-created by Benioff and Weiss and Alexander Woo, The Three-Body Problem has already drawn criticism from some members of the US government, who previously accused Netflix of “normalising” the Chinese government’s incarceration of Uyghur Muslims by adapting Liu Cixin’s story.

Netflix does not operate a service in China,” the platform’s VP of global policy said in response. “Netflix judges individual projects on their merits.

“Mr Liu is the author of the book – The Three-Body Problem – not the creator of this show. We do not agree with his comments, which are entirely unrelated to his book or this Netflix show.”

Netflix’s statement came after author Liu appeared to defend the Xinjiang internment camps. “Would you rather that they be hacking away at bodies at train stations and schools in terrorist attacks?” he was quoted as saying in a New Yorker piece.

“If anything, the government is helping their economy and trying to lift them out of poverty.”

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Spin-off House of the Dragon is now filming.
