Game of Thrones creators have ruled out any involvements for future spin-offs following the intense backlash that followed the show’s finale.

Season eight of the HBO fantasy drama left a number of fans feeling a little underwhelmed to say the least, which even resulted in a million signatures on a petition calling for producers to remake the last few episodes again.

While the show’s prequel House of the Dragon – starring Matt Smith – was given the green light and is scheduled for release this year, D.B. Weiss insists there is no chance of returning back to the franchise with co-creator David Benioff.

‘It just felt like, for us, it was time to move on and get excited and terrified about building something else — building lots of something else’s,’ he told Entertainment Weekly.

We never saw more ‘Game of Thrones’ shows [as] something that made sense for us to be involved with, given where we were just as people at the time we were done with the original.’

In 2019, the fantasy came to an end after eight years, in an episode that saw Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) killed by her lover and nephew Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

House of the Dragon will explore a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart around 300 years before Game of Thrones took place.

Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, Steve Toussaint and Emma D’Arcy are among the stars joining Doctor Who star Matt in the prequel.

While fans can’t wait to be transported into the mythical world once more, Kit (Jon Snow) revealed why it’s going to be difficult for him to watch.

‘It’s my good friend Miguel [Sapochnik] who’s show-running it, I’ve got a friend Matt in it, so I’m looking forward to it but it’s gonna be hard,’ he said.

‘I’ve got a huge emotional connection to that piece, to that story, to that world.’

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW.
