Shared love of wine

Before Henry answered, he praised the anchor for posing a unique question.

“Oh my goodness, that’s an excellent question,” he said.

After that, he went on to say,

“I think he’d form an alliance with Tyrion… because they both like to drink, they would get on let’s be honest. They’d get on really really well. They’d have a good time.”

The response perfectly captures Daeron’s lighter, more approachable side as portrayed in the show and George R.R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight novellas. Unlike many of his Targaryen kin, who lean towards intense personalities, Daeron is depicted as relatively grounded and mostly drunk. Pairing him with Tyrion, the witty, wine-loving, quick-tongued Imp, feels like a natural match.

Why the pairing works

Daeron “the Drunken” Targaryen is nicknamed for his heavy drinking, often using wine to cope with his vivid, prophetic dragon dreams that torment him with glimpses of doom and Targaryen downfall. Tyrion Lannister, meanwhile, is famously fond of Arbor gold and other fine wines. He is known for turning towards drink to dull the pain of constant mockery, family rejection, and his dwarfism. Both use alcohol as a crutch against emotional and existential burdens, which might make their late-night tavern sessions a natural bonding ritual.

With this, Henry Ashton has given fans the perfect drinking-buddies crossover to dream about while waiting for more of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
