You might imagine an audition for Game Of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen to be an intense affair, but Emilia Clarke utilised an expert method to puncture the room.

The 32-year-old actress has played Daenerys aka the Mother Of Dragons across all eight seasons of the show, which is set to conclude next year.

Speaking at the Britannia Awards (via Variety), show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed how Emilia was asked to audition again for the HBO president despite having already shown company executives the pilot.

Describing it as the ‘least inviting audition environment’ in HBO’s corporate theatre, Weiss explained how Emilia’s perfect execution of the robot dance landed her the role.

Weiss said: ‘Emilia asked if there was anything else she could do to lighten the mood and David asked, “Can you dance?” And without missing a beat, Emilia did the robot.

‘She did it with commitment and she did it well… and even the president had no choice but to smile.

‘She got the job 10 seconds after she left the room and the two of us ran to tell her before she left the building because letting her get on an 11-hour flight home without seemed like cruel and unusual punishment.’

The moral of the story? If you’re asked to dance, you better dance.

Benioff and Weiss were presenting Emilia with the award for British Artist Of The Year on Friday (26 October), who thanked the pair for casting her in the life-changing role.

In her acceptance speech, Emilia said: ‘[Benioff and Weiss] actually deserve their own bravery award for hiring someone whose biggest job up until then was catering parties dressed as Snow White.’

Game Of Thrones stars recently reunited to support Maisie Williams, who is appearing in a new London play.

Game Of Thrones season eight is set to be released in 2019.
