It doesn’t take much for Game Of Thrones fans to unite in a grand bout of trolling, as evidenced after the show made a return to social media with a cryptic post.
After keeping quiet in the grand stakes of making an original message– and not just retweeting or shouting about some nomination – the Twitter account of the HBO show had a little moment on Monday night.
And boy did it bring everyone together.
Against Game Of Thrones.
Simply posting ‘Winter is coming’, the meme-heavy quote from Ned Stark (Sean Bean) from that fateful first episode that served as the Stark’s house motto, HBO knew they were playing with fire.
Instead of being greeted with a bunch of ‘what is happening?’ and ‘what does this mean?’ that usually populates the comment section of any cryptic moment, the trolling began.
Mostly everyone was asking whether a better season eight was coming, after the divisive finale of the fantasy epic left a rather sour taste in most people’s mouths.
‘Winter is disappointing… Just like Season 8,’ one unsatisfied customer replied, as another echoed the same sentiments by writing: ‘Unless it’s a season 8 remake – delete your account.’
Come on, don’t be like that!
One had a rather crafty response as they dreamt up their own storyline: ‘Too bad Game of Thrones ended at season 6, we will never know what Daenerys will do after crossing the narrow sea.’
As others suggested this was a sign the prequel which covers the Targaryen dynasty was actually the thing that was coming, one (perhaps former) fan added: ‘It came and it disappointed.’
It’s been six months since the ultimate episode saw the most obvious candidate for King, Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington), banished for killing ‘his Queen’ Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clark), and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) appointed ruler of what became the Six Kingdoms.
Punters revolted like it was Battle Of The Bastards part two or that Ned had been beheaded all over again.
Last week Tormund Giantsbane star Kristofer Hivju – who was reunited with co-stars Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) and Isaac at a Game of Thrones Celebration – revealed the cast did film another ending to the show which we’ll likely never see.
‘Well, we shot an alternative ending,’ the actor revealed to Metro.co.uk. ‘That was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.
As Dean-Charles Chapman – who played Tommen Baratheon – called for this alternate ending to be released, even Kristofer revealed he was shocked by the eventual outcome.
‘The funny thing is after season seven I had my theories…the cast had their theories so there were thousands of theories,’ he explained. ‘To choose one path would be difficult to say but there were many things I didn’t see coming; there was the element of surprise which I liked.’
