The Game of Thrones finale brought in just a third of the amount of viewers who watched the last ever episode of Friends.

The fantasy drama came to an end with season eight airing just a few days ago and stats show that 19 million US viewers tuned in to watch it on HBO, HBO GO and HBO Now.

Friends, on the other hand, managed to attract an eye-watering 53 million of us way back in 2004, for the episode titled The Last One aka The One Where They Say Goodbye.

The two-part installment, which celebrated its 15th anniversary earlier this month, saw Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc’s characters all part ways and we still get emotional about it.

Friends isn’t the most watched finale though.

War comedy-drama M*A*S*H remains the show with the highest last episode rating, with the final season 11’s Goodbye, Farewell and Amen, bringing in 106 million viewers in 1983.

NBC’s Cheers follows closely behind with its 1993 ending pulling in 80 million for their final hurrah and Seinfield coming in a close third at 76 million.

Classic shows M*A*S*H, Cheers and Seinfield have put more recent sitcoms to shame in terms of last ever episode ratings.

The Big Bang Theory came to an end just last week, attracting 18 million viewers while Will & Grace roped in just four million on NBC last year.

Game Of Thrones is available for catch-up on NOW TV.
