Did Peter Dinklage warn us Game of Thrones season 8 would be a disaster?

Game of Thrones season 8 is without a doubt the biggest disappointment since Geri left the Spice Girls, but perhaps we should have seen it coming.

While the Game of Thrones cast warned fans this weekend’s finale wouldn’t satisfy everyone, some think Peter Dinklage may have teased that this last chapter would be a total disaster.

The 49-year-old Tyrion Lannister actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight way back in 2018 when we didn’t just have hope, we were certain that 2019 would be the moment we all got to witness the greatest six episodes ever made.

How wrong we were.

When asked how he felt about the end game, Pete couldn’t have sounded less interested or more rehearsed.

‘There are no better writers in television than Dan Weiss and David Benioff. They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could have imagined and you people are in for it,’ he told the reporter. And then he definitely rolled his eyes.

We’ll leave that to your interpretation, but at this point it’s barely even debatable that Game of Thrones has lost all credibly to the point of no return.

From a rogue coffee cup to Jaime Lannnister’s miracle hand, if the unforgivable blunders don’t permanently tarnish Game of Thrones’ legacy, season eight’s tame storytelling and absent twists certainly will.

In turn, a petition demanding season eight is rewritten has now gathered more than 500,000 signatures and is rapidly climbing by the second. The latest episode, The Bells, immediately became the most slated instalment of all time and showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff have been officially listed as ‘bad writers’ on Google.

For anyone who still cares, the Game of Thrones finale airs this Sunday at 9pm on HBO and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic at 2am here in the UK. Seasons one to seven are currently available on NOW TV.
