Fox series Deep State is making its return and promises to be more dangerous than ever in the nail-biting season two trailer.

Game Of Thrones star Joe Dempsie will be back as Harry, whose team is soon captured by soldiers in the midst of their mission, while Walton Goggins, whose credits include Tomb Raider, Ant -Man and the Wasp, Sons of Anarchy and Django Unchained, will be starring alongside.

In the new series, having failed in the Middle East, the powers that be are heading over to sub-Saharan Africa in an attempt to steal the countries natural resources.

In an exclusive first look at the new clip for Deep State’s second chapter, we see the start of a war over clean energy.

The thriller will also explore the origin stories of some of our favourite characters from season one.

However, things are soon going wrong, witnessing the fall of a hero and orchestrating the making of a terrorist in the eyes of the West.

As the intelligence office starts falling apart and important political players start losing their grip on their power, the team are soon living on a day-to-day basis of survival and succeeding.

The Crown’s Victoria Hamilton and The Night Manager’s Alistair Petrie rounds out the team.

Speaking about the upcoming new epic, showrunner and director Matthew Parkhill said: ‘My ambition for Deep State was to create an intelligent, cinematic and political thriller; a modern-day story that reflects the turbulent times we are all living in.

‘This year, we build on the established worlds of London and Washington from season one, and take our audience further behind the curtain of the deep state, introducing new characters and new territories – notably Mali and the epic landscape of the Sahara Desert, the land of the Tuareg people.’

‘A new frontier for the deep state, as it seeks ever greater profits from orchestrated and curated chaos,’ he continued.

‘The lines between the political and emotional lives of each character continue to blur and we are thrilled to be telling this new story with such a diverse and talented cast.’

Deep State returns to Fox in May.
