It’s one of the most successful shows to ever have made it from script to the small screen, earning its stars millions and making the careers of many an unknown actor.
But it seems that the cast are eager for the book to close on the final chapter, as mainstay Lima Cunningham – who has played the Onion Knight Ser Davos since 2012 – has revealed he and his fellow co-stars are waiting for series eight to be over and done with.
Speaking at this weekend’s IFTA awards, the Irish star , 56, explained that the show had run its course in his opinion, and the worst thing for any involved (Including the fans_ would be to drag it out.
Joking around he told the Daily Express: ‘My accountant doesn’t want it to end, he’s got his nails bit down to the quick.’
However, speaking about the finale and why the fantasy series should come to an end, Liam explained: ‘This thing always had a beginning, middle and an end.
‘And as me Dad used to say, “Jesus it’s a bit dragged out isn’t it,” so we don’t want to drag it out.’
The show is famously coming to a close next year with its eighth and final series drawing to a close the tale of Westeros and the battle for the Iron Throne.
Though there is yet to be a date confirmed when the show will return to our screens for one last time, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) seemed to hint that it would be in April – though she later denied making the comments.
Though George R.R. Martin has some way to go before fans of his books can get some closure on the now far removed tale on paper, those in love with the TV show will watch as Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen attempt to turn back the Night King whilst also solving the issue of Cersei Lannister and her grip on King’s Landing.
