Maisie Williams made her career and her life thanks to Game Of Thrones – but it almost never happened thanks to her throwing a strop.
The 21-year-old actress, who was just 11 when she got the role of Arya Stark on the fantasy epic, wanted to ditch her audition because there was a school trip to a pig farm that she wanted to go on instead.
Speaking to Christine Lampard on Lorraine, Maisie revealed: ‘I desperately wanted to go on a school trip instead – good job I didn’t! I wouldn’t be here now.’
Admitting she had no idea how much of an impact the show was going to make on her life, the star said: ‘It’s really strange, now in this final season, I’ve done the most reflecting and looking back to the first [season].
‘It really has been everything I can really remember.I can’t really remember anything before this show.’
On Game of Thrones’ legacy and growing up with the series, Maisie added: ‘It was quite overwhelming in the beginning but it was definitely something that kind of grew gradually.
Saying she was ‘honoured’ to be part of the show, the Brit actress compared her life to others her age who would be graduating university, beaming: ‘I feel like I’ve just graduated the school of acting!’
‘The last chapter [of my life] was really beautiful and I am going to miss it,’ she added.
The last installment of the show is finally coming our way on Sunday and it’s pretty obvious that not everyone is quite ready to say goodbye to it.
Even George RR Martin, the author of the book behind the show, doesn’t think it should end just yet.
As we wait patiently for the truth to be revealed, HBO bosses have even teased that they’ve been keeping things so under wraps that even the cast might not know the actual ending after all this time (though we’re guessing they must at least have a good idea).
It’s been pretty obvious for a while now that the cast has been winding us up at every opportunity.
From making Joe Jonas sign an NDA so fiancée Sophie Turner could talk about Sansa’s fate with him, to putting Kit Harington to the test with the cast bombarding him with questions on SNL, everyone’s lips are tightly shut.
There was one moment where we thought Maisie let slip something major about Arya Stark, but it was just an April Fools’ prank.
Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
